EARNESTLY SEEKING HIM
And they said to one another,
“Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road,
and while He opened the Scriptures to us?”
Luke 24:32
Jesus joins those who are earnestly seeking Him. He knows our hearts, and He knows that sometimes we are confused or discouraged. Jesus also knows that Scriptures will help us through even the most difficult times.
Two Confused Travelers
Two men walked along the road to Emmaus discussing the confusing events that had just occurred in Jerusalem. They thought they understood the happenings of their day, but the death of Jesus had left them disoriented to God and His activity in their world. They had hoped that Jesus was the Messiah, but His death had left them perplexed and discouraged. They needed answers. (Luke 24:13-24).
Jesus Joins the Travelers
Then Jesus came to these two men and walked with them. As they walked, Jesus opened their minds to what the Scriptures said about Him and about the events of their day. The two men listened to Jesus relate the Scriptures to what they were experiencing; as a result, they knew in their hearts that they were hearing God’s truth. (Luke 24:25-27). Their hearts burned within them while Jesus was speaking (Luke 24:32)! Consequently, their doubts vanished, excitement overcame them, and they raced back to share the truth with their friends (Luke 24:33-35)!
As you pray today, take this moment to clear your mind – push aside the clutter, the confusion, the discouragement, push it all aside. Remind yourself that you need Jesus to give you His perspective. Then, ask Him to open your eyes to the truth of the Scriptures just as He did for those two travelers. Once you’ve heard from Him, you’ll be like those two men, excited to join Christ in what He is doing around you and eager to include others in the experience. Amen!
